Certified Medication Aide and Renewal

Blinn’s Certified Medication Aide Program, designed for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), covers a wide range of topics required for proper medication administration. After completing the course, students will be prepared to take the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) Medication Aide Licensure Exam.

For those already licensed as certified medication aides, Blinn offers a refresher course that meets the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) requirements for maintaining certification. To enroll in the Certified Medication Aide Program, students must first participate in the healthcare information session listed below.

Certified Medication Aide and Renewal students are eligible to apply for Duddlesten Foundation scholarships while funds remain available.

Program Highlights

Blinn's 140-hour, $805 Certified Medication Aide Program covers medical abbreviations, symbols, terminology, and common equivalents required for medication administration. Topics include drug legislation, drug references, basic anatomy and physiology, and common diseases.

Certified Nurse Aides can expect to earn a median salary of $13.26 per hour, whether you choose to work for the local government, employment services, general medical or surgical hospitals, nursing care facilities or community care facilities for the elderly. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national demand for nursing assistants is expected to grow 5% between 2021 and 2031 with a median hourly pay of $14.56. Texas ranks among the top states in the nation in terms of the number of people employed as nursing assistants.

Yes. Students who hold a current CNA certificate and complete Blinn's Certified Medication Aide Program will be prepared to take the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) Medication Aide Licensure Exam.

Yes. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) requires certified medication aides to complete at least seven hours of in-service education annually. Students who successfully complete Blinn’s Certified Medication Aide Renewal course receive an updated medication aide permit from the state.
